Development system
Development
UMC responds to a variety of customers' development needs, from product development starting from ideas, to mechanical aspects such as hardware and resin molding, and software development. Our Hardware R&D, Software R&D, Mechanism R&D, Design R&D and A/W Planning departments have 80 experienced engineers working in them developing new items, in addition to dispatching engineers to customers.
From EMS to E-EMS
UMC provides services beyond traditional EMS (electronics manufacturing service). By adding engineering for E-EMS (electronics engineering & manufacturing service), all customer needs can be met, creating a system to handle everything from planning and concept to delivery.

Purchasing
UMC has an acquisition system with five bases, including Japan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam and Thailand. With acquisitions focusing on optimum location and cost, a "global best buy" system meeting customer needs is realized. In the four bases aside from Thailand, an ERP system developed in-house is used, creating a speedy work system.
We are also actively involved in supplier investigation and certification, as well as green acquisitions of components. By using a chemical management system (CMS) based on EU directives, we provide full support for customer CMS and help contribute to meeting compliance.
Technology Held
UMC uses all the technology it possesses, from electronics, software and mechanism development to production and packaging technology, in order to respond to any customer requests.For production, based on an ample database built up with craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology is used for optimized production. For packaging, next-generation packaging technology is used in pursuit of the best quality.
Productivity
We participate from the product planning stage, using our accumulated craftsmanship database for DFM (design for manufacturability). Staff with expert knowledge on development and production process optimization carry out reviews, ensuring reliability and high quality.

Device Mounting technology
The Company uses next-generation packaging technology (using advanced packaging equipment (on-board monitors/load control/part quantity check), AOI quality standards movement/automatic Prog creation, etc.) for its operations. A variety of quality support tools are used to ensure good and safe conditions.
In addition to advanced statistical analysis technology, comparisons with ample accumulated manufacturing data and traceability management ensure detailed management of changes, in order to create an optimum environment for craftsmanship.
Improvement activities
The Company has a manufacturing center for welding tools, automated devices and sensors, and engineers at each office are involved in developing tools and devices to improve quality, costs and efficiency on site. By developing inexpensive and high-quality internally made automatic devices such as metal-mask flow pallets, welding robots, and screw-tightening robots, it is not necessary to spend time and money on importing sensors and tools from overseas.
The Company will continue constant improvement in order to create a new culture of craftsmanship.
Quality
From process design, the basis of quality, to production and shipping, the Company works together for consistent quality assurance. In particular, with automatized testing, we provide products customers can rely on. With quality evaluation tools included X-ray sensors and electron scanning microscopes, very precise product testing and analysis is carried out.
Global System
The Company opened a Production Technology Center gathering together advanced production technology and create a global network for production technology between each office. (January 2014-)
